SAT Score Chart — Raw to Scaled, Percentiles & ACT Concordance

Three charts answer almost every 'what does this score mean' question: raw answers to scaled scores, scaled scores to percentiles, and SAT totals to ACT composites. All three live here with their sources and honest ranges — curves move by test date, and the ranges are the truth most charts omit.

Quick answer: Digital SAT anchors: 54/54 R/W raw ≈ 770–800 · 50/54 ≈ 700–740 · 44/44 Math ≈ 770–800 · 40/44 ≈ 700–740. Percentiles: 1400 = 93rd · 1200 = 75th · 1000 = 42nd. ACT concordance: 36 → 1570–1600 · 30 → 1360–1380 · 24 → 1160–1190.

Chart 1 — Digital SAT raw to scaled (representative ranges)

Each administration is equilibrated separately; these are representative published-range anchors. R/W = 54 raw points (27+27), Math = 44 (22+22):

Chart 2 — Total score to percentile

SAT user percentiles (recent graduating classes). The nationally representative scale reads 3-5 points higher at the same score:

Chart 3 — SAT total to ACT composite (official 2018 concordance)

Joint publication of ACT Inc. and College Board; read as ranges:

What SatCalcs doesn't do

  • We don't publish a single-number raw→scaled chart — every honest chart is a range because equating changes per administration
  • We don't extend concordance to section-level claims — the official tables link composite to total only

Frequently Asked Questions

How many wrong answers is a 1500 on the Digital SAT?
Roughly: lose about 2-3 raw points in R/W (52/54 ≈ 750) and 2-3 in Math (42/44 ≈ 760) for a 1500-1510 total. The exact count depends on that date's curve — some dates forgive 5 combined misses at 1500, others fewer. Practice within ±3 raw of perfect per section to be in range.
Is the SAT curved against other students?
No — a persistent myth. The SAT is equated, not curved: your raw score is mapped to the scale so a 1300 means the same across years, regardless of how other students did that day. A harder form gets a friendlier mapping, which is why the same raw count yields slightly different scaled scores on different dates.
Why do SAT charts differ between websites?
Because each chart picks a source: official practice-test tables, released QAS forms, or invented averages. Legit charts show ranges (±20 per section) and cite the source. Single-number charts without sources are decoration — we show ours.
What raw score is a perfect 1600?
Usually all 54 R/W and all 44 Math correct — but some administrations award 800 with one wrong (the curve loosens when a question misfires statistically). Plan for full raw perfection; treat one-question mercy as a lucky bonus, not a strategy.
Does this chart work for the paper SAT?
The percentile and concordance charts do (the scales never changed). The raw-to-scaled chart above is Digital-specific; paper forms used 96 raw EBRW / 58 raw Math with their own tables — the paper calculator tool on this site scores those directly.
