SAT Score Calculator — Raw Answers to 400–1600, With the Range

Who this is for: For students scoring a practice test at the kitchen table — and for parents checking what last night's practice run means before booking the real thing.

Enter correct answers per module (or per paper section) — get section scores, your total, and the honest range around them.

Quick answer: Digital SAT: R/W scales from 54 raw points and Math from 44, each to 200–800, totaling 400–1600. A full 54/54 R/W run scores ≈790 (range 770–800); perfect Math 44/44 ≈790. Enter your correct answers below for section scores, total, percentile and ACT equivalent.

How does this SAT score calculator work?

The Digital SAT (2024+) has two sections — Reading & Writing (two modules of 27 questions, 54 raw) and Math (two modules of 22, 44 raw) — each scaled to 200–800, summing to 400–1600. Enter correct answers per module and the calculator converts them with a representative curve: all 54 R/W correct lands around 790 (range 770–800), 50 correct around 720; a perfect Math module pair reaches 790 (770–800), 40 correct around 720. The College Board re-equilibrates the curve every administration, so the same raw score can move ±20 points per section depending on the test date — which is why every result shows a range, not a single promised number. Paper SAT (2016–2023) scoring is built in too: EBRW out of 96 raw, Math out of 58.

Common uses

  • Scoring a full Digital SAT practice test module by module
  • Converting an old paper practice test's raw totals
  • Checking whether a target score is within reach before test day
  • Comparing two practice runs on the same scale

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate my SAT score from raw answers?
Count correct answers per section (there is no penalty for wrong answers on the SAT), convert each section's raw total to the 200–800 scale, then add the two sections. On the Digital SAT, R/W has 54 raw points across two modules and Math has 44. All 54 R/W correct scores around 790, and a perfect 44 Math raw around 790 — the last few points depend on that administration's curve, which is why this calculator shows a range around every estimate.
Is there a penalty for wrong answers on the SAT?
No. Since 2016 the SAT has had no wrong-answer penalty, so you should answer every question — a blank and a wrong answer are worth the same zero raw points. Raw score = number correct, nothing subtracted.
What is a good SAT score?
It depends on your target schools, but the national anchors are: 1400 is 93rd percentile, 1300 is 86th, 1200 is 75th and 1000 is 42nd among recent SAT takers. Scores of 1500+ put you in the top 2%. The percentile calculator on this site shows where any total lands.
Why does the same raw score give different scaled scores on different tests?
The College Board equates each administration against a reference population so that a 1300 means the same thing year to year. If a test form turns out harder, the curve loosens (more raw points per scaled point); if easier, it tightens. That's the ±20 range you see here — nobody outside the College Board can promise the exact curve before scores come out.
How is the Digital SAT different from the paper SAT for scoring?
The Digital SAT is section-adaptive: how you do on Module 1 decides whether Module 2 is the easier or harder route, and both routes can reach the same top scores. Raw maximums are 54 (R/W) and 44 (Math). The paper SAT (last given internationally in 2023, US in early 2024) used fixed sections — Reading 52 + Writing 44 raw for EBRW, 58 raw for Math.
Does this calculator store or send my answers anywhere?
No. Every conversion runs in your browser — nothing you type leaves the page, and there's no signup. Close the tab and it's gone.
